We had a preview of all the Rhinos a couple of days ago. From Monday 5 July 2010 you can see them stampeding all over Chester. There are some clever designs and all beautifully painted, several Liverpool artists involved as well as Chester ones. As with the Liverpool Go Penguins, there is a trail map and merchandise.
Rhino Mania – in brief:
The historic city of Chester will soon be alive with the noisy and colourful arrival of RHINO MANIA; over 170 works of art will go on display as 62 individually designed rhinos created by talented artists from the North West will transform the city, along with a further 116 ‘mini rhinos’ designed by Chester’s imaginative schoolchildren.
The event has attracted local artist as well as those from all over the region whose work will be showcased to stunning effect. American celebrity clothes designer Marc Ecko will be presenting a design as a supporter of Chester Zoo and its conservation work, with hit teen drama ‘Hollyoaks’ also among the event’s supporters.
The trail will wind its way all over the city and out to Ellesmere Port and Cheshire Oaks as well as flying the Chester flag in Liverpool Airport, Liverpool Lime Street Station and London Euston.
The event also enjoys the support of top-flight sponsors from the world of business, including Bank of America, the North West Regional Development Agency, Virgin Trains and Virgin Money Giving.
Wild in Art, who are delivering the event in association with Chester Renaissance have also just received the prestigious accolade of ‘Best Tourism Event’ at the Merseyside Tourism Awards for their Go Penguins event that took Liverpool by storm as part of the city’s Winters Trail celebrations in 2009/10.
