Watch artist create a new Beatles portrait in Liverpool:

Graffiti style design will be part of Beatles day celebrations

To celebrate Beatles Day this Friday 10 July 2009, graffiti artist Andy Prior will be creating a new portrait of the Fab Four in Cavern Walks on Mathew Street in Liverpool city centre.

Starting at 9am, artist Andy Prior will work on the 7metre by 3metre canvas on the ground floor of Cavern Walks, between the two cafes Chantilly and Lucy in the Sky. People will be able to drop in and watch his progress throughout the day. The finished picture will then be installed in the boutique shopping centre in the heart of the Beatles Quarter.

Artist Andy Prior’s work ranges from installations to graffiti and street art, which have included commissions. Pink Floyd fans might remember his portrait of Roger Waters at Liverpool’s Echo Arena as part of their 2008 concert. He also put his unique slant on a coffee machine in restaurant Piccolino’s as part of the 2004 Liverpool Biennial’s Art in Bars programme.
