Artist Katriona Beales announces back catalogue sale
A 2005 graduate of Liverpool JMU School of Art & Design, Katriona Beales is a visual artist who has been based at the Bluecoat since it’s re-opening in 2008. In January 2011, the artist will start a post-graduate course at Chelsea School of Art. In order to help raise funds to cover course fees and material costs Katriona has made the decision to sell some of her previously unreleased back catalogue of work.
Katriona has exhibited internationally and currently has an exhibition in Linz, Austria at MAERZ Artist Association. She has been shortlisted for the National Sculpture Prize 2010 and was recently included in the Global Studios show at the Bluecoat.
Artist Statement:
Deeply influenced by a migrant childhood moving between different continents; journeys, ideas of home and questions of how to site identity and situate belonging, continue to underpin much of Katriona Beales’ work.
Working often with 2D and 3D collage, Katriona uses the process of bringing together disparate and initially unrelated elements, and weaving them into one, to mirror visual collisions present in globalised spaces.
Past work involved piercing paper with myriad small holes to draw lines with light.
More recently, Katriona has been examining masks and mask wearing as an attempt to restore a sense of mystery, and explore the importance of the unknown and unfamiliar as a space for the imagination.
Prices range from £50 to a £1,000, and are negotiable but reflect the hours invested in creating the work. All work is sold signed and subject to contract.
A full list of works and prices can be emailed on request.
Artworks also are available for viewing from the 9th of July to the 30th in the artists’ studio.
