A Foundation and Tatsumi Orimoto Invite Grandmothers to Banquet

SATURDAY 3 July 2010, 18.00 – 21.00 at A Foundation
A Foundation and Tatsumi Orimoto are inviting 50 grandmothers from across Liverpool to share in a free Japanese style banquet. Bringing together 25 enthusiastic grandmothers from the community with 25 residents of local care homes, the event is a celebration of the caring relationships which exist between different generations and will be a fantastic opportunity for participants to enjoy a unique experience celebrating the opening of our latest exhibition Tatsumi Orimoto Live in Translation. The occasion will begin with a parade led by Orimoto from Liverpool One shopping centre to our gallery in Greenland Street (a ten minute stroll).

Orimoto’s recent work is inspired by his role as full time carer to his mother, Odai, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and depression. By placing Odai as the primary focus of his photography and performances, Orimoto uses his art to explore ways of communicating with his mother which overcome the challenges caused by her condition.

50 Grandmamas Banquet is part of an international series of events intended to highlight the growing global issue of elderly care by considering the ways in which different societies support their ageing relatives. As part of Liverpool’s 2010: Year of Health and Wellbeing, A Foundation wish to bring residents of local care homes together with grandmothers from across Liverpool in an informal and dynamic setting, proving that cultural experiences are beneficial for the general wellbeing of those of any age or health condition.

Although is a free event booking in advance is essential due to the limited number of places. If you are a Liverpool grandmother interested in joining in the 50 Grandmamas banquet at A Foundation please send a short statement describing why you would like to attend to Nick Strowbridge at A Foundation, 67 Greenland Street, Liverpool, L1 0BY or e-mail info@afoundation.org.uk
