We’ve been practising all day. See you there, wrap up warm!

Via Liverpool Echo…

FOUR new verses from poet Roger McGough will be revealed during a mass sing-along of The Farm’s All Together Now at tomorrow night’s Pier Head party.

Organisers want the thousands expected to converge on the waterfront to join in with the anthem as part of Transition: The People’s Celebration.

There will also be a version of the Beatles’ Abbey Road classic Here Comes The Sun.

The party starts at around 6pm and will include a film review of 08 beamed on to giant screens on the side of the new museum, Mersey Ferry terminal and ECHO Arena, and a ceremonial handover of the culture title to the Mayor of Vilnius in Lithuania and a senior representative from Linz in Austria.

The handover of laurel wreaths will take place at the container which staged Ringo Starr’s rooftop performance at St George’s Hall last January.

Liverpool Lantern Company is creating a river of light along the new Leeds-Liverpool canal link.

The event – devised by the Culture Company and put together by Walk the Plank – will end with an eight-minute firework display fired from ships in the middle of the River Mersey.

Cultural director Phil Redmond, who last year likened 2008 to a ‘Scouse wedding’, said the Transition event was a celebration of a successful 2008 and a look forward to the future.

He said: “This is the anniversary of our Scouse wedding.

“It was 365 days ago we held the opening ceremony, and it was then I sensed the city’s shoulders raising.”

The Strand will be closed in both directions from 4-8pm.

There will be enhanced bus and train services, including extended city centre shuttle services; the C2, C3 and C4, until 10pm to allow people to access the various attractions.

All Together Now

Remember boy that your forefathers died

Lost in millions for a country’s pride

But they never mention the trenches of Belgium

When they stopped fighting and they were one

A spirit stronger than war was at work that night

December 1914 cold, clear and bright

Countries’ borders were right out of sight

When they joined together and decided not to fight

All together now, All together now

All together now, in no man’s land

All together now, All together now

All together now, in no man’s land

The same old story again

All those tears shed in vain

Nothing learnt and nothing gained

Only hope remains

All together now, All together now

All together now, In no man’s land

All together now, All together now

All together now, In no man’s land

The boys had their say they said no

Stop the slaughter let’s go home, let’s go, let’s go
