‘Christ Blessing the Little Children’, by Benjamin Robert Haydon.This picture was commissioned in 1837, from the ‘celebrated Haydon’ – London painter, lecturer and tireless champion of High Art – for the Chapel of the Liverpool Blind Asylum. Built by John Foster in 1819, the neo-classical Chapel stood on the north western corner of Great Nelson (now Lord Nelson) Street and Duncan Street (part of which remains, now Hotham Street).
There will be a talk on the painting on March 9th and 31st 13.00-13.30
