Terry Duffy’s acclaimed work, Monuments, revisted at new exhibition in Chester

Terry Duffy’s acclaimed work, MONUMENTS, is to be shown for the first time in more than a decade, as part of a broader exhibition of contemporary abstract art at the new Chester Visual Arts exhibition space. The exhibition is entitled ’ReMark’.

The installation and paintings were first exhibited during the 2008 Liverpool European City of Culture sponsored by Barclays Bank. In 2009 it was moved to the vast Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. In 2011 installed at the magnificent Palazzo Contarini during the prestigious Venice Biennale and sponsored by Sotheby’s. Following this in 2014 installed at the Brunswick Centre London to launch the Bloomsbury Arts Festival.

The painting are derived from classical human form. They express the apparent strength of humanity in contrast to the fragile nature of human existence. They are also of intense translucent blue creating a space for the eye mind to enter for deeper reflection.

Alongside MONUMENTS, Duffy will be unveiling more recent work, including the large scale ‘Adjustable Angel’ and other work on a smaller scale. Duffy’s work has been exhibited internationally including New York, Berlin, Paris, Dresden, Cape Town, Venice, Liverpool, London and in 2017 in war torn Kurdistan as part of a peace installation.

In 2023 his biography “The Vessel” was published. It is a must for any artist or art student.
