Xmas Lights Switch on 2007 a Big Hit

I’ve just thawed out. Despite being in a privileged position at front of stage with all the press photographers my pictures turned out really crap. I blame the cold and the rain and the fact I was using my old camera – coz its bigger than my newer one and if you’re with the press you have to have a BIG camera round your neck to look the part, right?
Fortunately Mrs J had her ever-reliable tiny camera with her so I’m using some of her snaps here and Pete Carr was there so look out for some awesome shots on his photoblog in the next day or two.

Anyway, it was great fun. Of course, normally, I wouldn’t dream of going to see the likes of Eton Road or Natasha Hamilton perform. Not my cup of tea at all but I have to admit, all the performers were really good, especially considering the conditions, they sang and danced and got the crowd going whilst ignoring the foul weather. And the crowd responded, joining in with the songs and screaming madly at their idols.
The young Sean Walsh is very popular and the Notre Dame School Choir made it all a bit more Christmasy.
Also on stage for the big switch on were Liverpool FC’s Jamie Carragher and EFC’s Victor Anichebe as well as the Lord Mayor and Warren Bradley and the whole thing was well compered by Kev Seed of Radio City.

Of course, Father Christmas should not be forgotten and his abseiling down the corner of St George’s Hall was certainly an unforgettable sight. He was supposed to deliver the big red button to switch on the lights but he got tangled up in his ropes so one of his little helpers had to collect it from him.
