Writing on the Wall Festival 2014

Writing on the Wall brings the biggest names to Liverpool for Shell-Shock, Liverpool’s annual writing festival, which runs from 1 May – 1 June this year.

In 2014 the WoW festival commemorates the war, celebrates writers and confronts the real issues affecting people today. The WoW Festival is like no other, with controversial debate and diverse subject matter to shake up your expectations of a literature festival.

Introducing – Irvine Welsh: Writing on the Wall are delighted to announce that the author of one of the most iconic novels of the 20th Century, Trainspotting, is appearing in the festival this May. Irvine Welsh is joining WoW in Liverpool as part of his latest book launch tour of ‘The Sex Lives of Siamese Twins’. The night will be hosted by novelist, Kevin Sampson with a DJ set from lead singer of The Farm, Peter Hooton.

Introducing: A Rebel Rant with journalist and author, Owen Jones (Chavs – The Demonisation of the Working Class). Owen Jones, an inspirational speaker, is a columnist for The Guardian and appears regularly on TV discussing politics and social issues. Owen will be ranting about the ongoing fight against those in power with a chance for the audience to get their opinions heard.

Writing on the Wall dedicates a whole month to bringing to Liverpool the greatest authors, commentators, comedians, playwrights, historians, film makers, poets and song writers. Look out for writing competitions for all ages and performance opportunities for local writers.

2014 is the centenary year of WWI, WoW will have a strand of events commemorating the war, its legacy and lessons of today.
