21 – 27 June 2010
Drop in workshop: Sunday 27 June 2010, 13.00 – 16.00
The World Museum Liverpool
is hosting a moving and varied exhibition of Arpilleras produced by community groups in Merseyside.  Arpilleras (arr-pee-air-ahs) are stitched appliqué textile wall hangings that tell a story. There are twelve hangings on show, containing the work of approximately 160 individuals.

The Irish Festival Liverpool supported a series of textile workshops in Merseyside in 2009/2010 on the theme of Heritage.  The workshops enabled adults and children to create Arpilleras that told stories from their own lives. The groups were encouraged to talk and to share life experiences as they stitched and this was as important a part of the workshops as the final textile pieces. For some individuals the making of their Arpillera was a profoundly moving experience, re-awakening old memories and emotions.

Open 10-5pm (except Wed/Thurs/Sat morning) at Community Base room, World Museum Liverpool.

On
Sunday 27th June as part of the exhibition there will be a drop in family workshop to make an Arpillera figure to take home.
