Travel from the sea to the stars with World Museum Liverpool. Combining historic treasures from across the globe with interactive technology, you can make friends with the fishes, or step inside a Mummies coffin and then zoom off into space to make an unbeatable family day out.  Open daily 10am – 5pm, Free entry


Museum highlights:

The Beat Goes On
Until 1 November

Our exhibition dedicated to 60 years of the city’s music shows why Liverpool deserves its name in lights. The Beat Goes On is a colourful, interactive exhibition that explores the energy, edginess and creativity that make Liverpool the capital of pop.

Free Planetarium
Travel to outer space without even leaving your chair in our incredible space and astronomy show for adults and children over five. Tickets available from 10am and up to five minutes before each performance from the welcome desk. (Additional shows at holiday times.)

Treasure House Theatre

We’ve got a packed programme of free events in our 80-seat theatre. Pick up a ticket from the welcome desk.


Our 09 programme includes:


Death on the Nile

Two bungling robbers have sneaked in to the museum, but they get more than they bargained for, when one of them opens an ancient scroll. (over 5’s)

World on film

Catch one of our 20 minute films, including Eastern Encounters which tells the story of the 2004 V&A exhibition about Asian art and objects from 1500 to 1800. (over 5’s)

Food for thought

Visit our Time travel café where our intrepid chef and waiter will take you on a journey through the history of food. (over 5’s)

Molly the friendly blue whale

Join Rosie or Captain Undersea in this tall tale of a brave whale that escapes a cruel captain (boo), and saves her friends in a storm (hooray). (under 5’s)

Samurai armour

Examine the armour of a Samurai warrior in this demonstration using replica 16th century armour. (Everyone)

Special events:

Black History Month
A selection of short films will be shown in the museum’s Treasure House Theatre throughout October to celebrate Black History Month. Films include Eastern Encounters, which tells the story of the 2004 V&A exhibition about Asian art and objects from 1500 to 1800 and Equiano, A Son of Africa, the story of Olaudah Equiano, who rose from slavery to become one of the most prominent figures in the 18th century movement to abolish slavery. Feel the beat at this interactive workshop. Limited places – pick up a ticket from the information desk on the day.

Family workshops
Every Sunday: 2.30- 4pm

Join us in the Weston Discovery Centre for hands-on activities including Middle Eastern dancing, African storytelling, Batik printing and Roman sandal making.

Threads of life: Textile workshop

Visit our special exhibition of handmade quilts and take part in a hands-on textile workshop to design and create your own. (over 7’s)

Threads of life: Quilts and arperillas that speak out
18 October 2009: 12.30-1.30pm

Learn about textiles on display from Ireland and Chile with guest curator Roberta Bacic. Part of the Guinness Liverpool Irish Festival.   

Creepy crawly tour
27 October 2009: 1pm
22 December 2009, 1pm

Come behind the scenes and get up close and personal with our creepy crawly collections.

The life and times of Charles Darwin          
28, 29 October 2009: 2 & 2.30pm

Join us for a family show with puppets and music looking at Charles Darwin’s trip to the Galapagos Island and some of the creatures he met which influenced his theories.

Halloween make-up
31 October 2009: 2-4pm

Learn some of the tricks of the trade to scare your friends at the Halloween party.

Christmas stories     
weekends in December and week days from 16 December: 2.15pm

Catch one of our Christmas tales, including the interactive Rudolph goes on holiday and A Christmas Carol.
