Over the months of July, August and September the World Museum Liverpool is hosting many free events, exhibitions and workshops for all the family to enjoy including:

Exhibitions

The Beat Goes On
Until 1 November 2009
Open daily 10am – 5pm
Our exhibition dedicated to 60 years of the city’s music shows why Liverpool deserves its name in lights. The Beat Goes On is a colourful, interactive exhibition that explores the energy, edginess and creativity that make Liverpool the capital of pop.

Darwin 200
Displays, performances and activities celebrating Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday and his groundbreaking scientific ideas.

Meet Charles Darwin
4, 5, 6 August– check the website for times and further dates
See the man himself in our interactive family show. The story of Darwin brought to life through puppets, music and songs.

Evolving Words
At intervals between 12 & 3pm 
4, 5, 6 August, 2009
Exciting and dynamic poetry performances, created and performed by young people, reflecting on and exploring Charles Darwin’s theories and his life and work. Created as part of the Evolving Words National Project, funded by the Wellcome Trust.          

Caustic Widows Theatre Company

4-9 August, 2009
Professor Rosa and Miss Daisy from the Caustic Widows Theatre Company will be on hand with puppet and musical performances to celebrate Charles Darwin’s birthday.

Free Planetarium
Travel to outer space without even leaving your chair in our incredible space and astronomy show for adults and children over five. Tickets available from 10am and up to five minutes before each performance from the welcome desk.

Treasure House Theatre
We’ve got a packed programme of free events in our 80-seat theatre. Pick up a ticket from the welcome desk. Our 09 programme includes:

Death on the Nile
Two bungling robbers have sneaked in to the museum, but they get more than they bargained for, when one of them opens an ancient scroll. (suitable for over 5’s)

World on film
Catch one of our 20 minute films, including Eastern Encounters which tells the story of the 2004 V&A exhibition about Asian art and objects from 1500 to 1800. (suitable for over 5’s)

Food for thought
Visit our Time Travel café where our intrepid chef and waiter will take you on a journey through the history of food. (suitable for over 5’s)

Molly the friendly blue whale
Join Rosie or Captain Undersea in this tall tale of a brave whale that escapes a cruel captain (boo), and saves her friends in a storm (hooray). (suitable for under 5’s)

Samurai armour
Examine the armour of a Samurai warrior in this demonstration using replica 16th century armour. (suitable for everyone)

The Nile

Live music from the Nile band. Bringing sounds from Egypt, North Africa and
the Middle East up to date with hypnotic rhythms.

Ancient Egyptian fashion

Explore ancient Egyptian fashion with Dr. Carolyn Routledge, including a practical demonstration with wrap-around dresses, kilts and girdles. Part of the Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival.    

Learning from poo!

It might sound disgusting but archaeologists can find out all sorts from poo – like how people in the past lived and what they ate. If you fancy yourself as an archaeologist and don’t mind getting messy join us to sift through some samples (not real poo!) and see if you can recreate the diets of our ancient ancestors.

Clues from the grave

What can we discover about Anglo Saxons from the objects they buried with the dead? This re-enactment of a burial will give us clues from the grave.
