Work by Liverpool pupil displayed at Castle Fine Art

A Liverpool pupil has been chosen to have her work hung in a local gallery alongside paintings by Bob Dylan and Ronnie Wood.

10-year-old Sultanah Alghamdi from Pleasant Street Primary School was named winner of Castle Fine Art’s ‘Young Fine Artist’ competition, designed to encourage the next generation of artistic talent.

The competition challenged pupils to come up with recreations of work by their favourite artist from the gallery.

This comes following an earlier visit, when 31 budding artists from the school were invited to go on a tour of the gallery on Church Alley. Gallery director, Frances Broughton, taught them about the history of the artists, their inspirations and techniques to inspire pupils as they undergo their own art studies at school.

Sultanah’s winning artwork inspired by best-selling painter, John Myatt, will be displayed in the gallery for a month, and she was also presented with £100 worth of vouchers to spend at leading art supply store, Cass Art.

Ali Moore, teacher at Pleasant Street Primary School, said: “This has been a fantastic project for the children to be involved in and they thoroughly enjoyed visiting the gallery and learning about all of the artists and artwork on display.

“The children put so much effort into their designs and the competition has left them feeling motivated to put their creative skills into practice back at school.”

Frances Broughton, gallery director for Castle Fine Art, Liverpool, said: “It was wonderful to welcome children from Pleasant Street Primary School to the gallery to learn about our artists.

“It’s clear to see how much time and thought Sultanah gave to the winning painting and I’m sure John Myatt would be thrilled to see her interpretation of his work.”
