Liverpool’s own Urban Strawberry Lunch are pleased to host a musical smorgersboard of local, national and international brilliance garnished with some action art, a sprinkling of street theatre and the odd dance step at St Luke’s Church on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th May 2008. The church will be open from 11.15 am, and the action starts at 12.00 running though to 7.45 pm.
Sunday 25th May
12.00 pm: FINGER LICKIN GOOD – Dance till you drop as the Finger Lickers take you on a spangle flared, Afro-haired, disco-poptastic adventure. With classics from the 50s to the noughties, this band will give you an aural rubdown to remember!
12.45 pm: HOPE AND HARMONY – a community choir delivering a mix of genres from Soul to African Chants
1.30 pm: GLOBAL PULSE – accomplished players of traditional West African drum fused with contemporary sounds. Undeniably funky and guaranteed to get even the most rhythmic novices moving. While the music is drum based it brings in many other global sounds and songs which will encapsulate and motivate the audience
2.15 pm: IGUANA – Salsa. Boogaloo. Son. Mambo. These very talented musicians from Latin America and the UK have spent over 10 years jamming, grooving and getting people dancing
3.00 pm: BEATLIFE combine Afro-Brazilian and Cuban grooves with modern urban beats to create an international sound.
3.45 pm: LIVERPOOL WEEKEND ARTS COLLEGE – young people from across the city proving that the future Liverpool’s performance scene is safe in their hands.
4.30 pm: CUSHFOOT – Martin Smith’s jazz combo favour a gentle, melodic approach to music, choosing lesser known but beautiful standards and home grown compositions
5.15pm: BLOCO NOVO – a fresh funky Afro-Brazilian percussion, beats, breaks, grooves and street dance
6.00 pm: URBAN STRAWBERRY LUNCH – pulsating bass lines, driving rhythms, strange instruments, beautiful sounds, brilliant music. Sonic anarchists USL are probably the worlds finest scrap instrumentalists.
PLUS: CHRIS MURRAY’S LIVE BACKDROP – As the festival progresses artist and cartoonist Chris Murray will be creating paintings live with the public using the lunacy surrounding him as a stimulus.
And…
HOPE STREET LTD – Hope Street will provide interactive performances, incorporating tea and cakes with a little stupidity on the side. Would you like some sugar with that?
Monday 26TH May
12.00 pm: CORNERSTONE JAZZ – jazz standards to classic pop songs in a big band style.
12.45 pm: IN2NATION – Michael Colley is a serious PANArt hang player. With his trio of rare magical UFOs he plays infectious grooves and mystical melodies. Not to be missed!
1.30 pm: NINE EYED TREE – Based on material written by Jamie Davies from Stoke on Trent and Nopanet Ganjan from Bangkok, Nine Eyed Tree expands upon a collection of musical experiments.
2.15 pm: SENSE OF SOUND CHOIR- a collective of exceptional individuals who deliver soulful, rhythmic, organic, sensitive, experimental, alternative and mainstream songs.
3.00 pm: LIVERPOOL LANTERN BAND – Forged in the depths of street band traditions, this funky outfit play an eclectic set of world music designed to delight, inspire and dance any audience that chances upon them!
3.45 pm: LIVERPOOL WEEKEND ARTS COLLEGE – young people from across the city proving that the future Liverpool’s performance scene is safe in their hands.
4.30 pm: LIVERPOOL SAMBA SCHOOL – >From the Amazon to the Mersey – infectious rhythms and pounding drums to get your hips shaking and your feet dancing.
5.15 pm: STRANGE BAND – Mike Mooney and Geoff Strange combine guitar, bass and drum in a strange nature to make music for non-violent direct acts against all wars
