Turner fever causes lifts to break down
SO many visitors are flocking to the Tate to see the Turner Prize that the gallery lifts cannot take the strain.
Tate bosses today revealed that one of the Albert Dock attraction’s lifts broke down this week because it was in such high demand.
They likened the rush to the opening of the new Primark store in Liverpool city centre
Visitor numbers to the gallery have soared since artwork by the four shortlisted Turner Prize artists went on show last week and have been attracting people from across the country.
A Tate spokesman said: “We’ve got a lot more people pouring through and one of the lifts just broke down.
“Loads of people are coming – we’re on a par with Primark.
