Threshold Festival reveal this weekend’s full Visual Arts line-up

Following an already stellar raft of acts across the music & arts spectrum being revealed, Threshold has announced the full and final Visual Arts line-up for their festival taking place this week.

Taking place on March 29th & 30th across Liverpool, amidst a packed weekend of BBC 6 Music Festival events, the veteran Baltic Triangle event is also being recognised as the official Fringe to the BBC event, hosted by Liverpool City of Music.

Included in the visual arts line-up is Gang of Five, a group of dynamic individuals whose aim is to collaborate in ambitious, challenging and highly artistic projects. The group bring their brand new collaboration project named ‘House of GOF’ to the festival, with visitors told to expect alternative life drawing, zine making, sketchbook sessions and an infinity gallery.

Also exhibiting at the festival is local artist Danny O’Connor, who describes his art as being “a celebration of contrasts, focusing mainly on portraits and figures with a prevalence of opposing artistic influences…” As the festival Co-Founder Chris Herstad Carney describes, “we know that our festival crowd love seeing live art, created right in front of their eyes, which is what Danny does so brilliantly”.

Cherie Grist, whose work is already on display throughout the UK, will document her artistic journey through what she describes as “our ever-changing world, observing, growing and learning with every situation life presents.” Also a local artist, Cherie is a contemporary Abstract Expressionist and Director of 104 Duke Street Studios. The festival is particularly proud to have her back, as she has been recently shortlisted for the John Moore’s Contemporary Painting Prize, the National Open Art prize andthe Case Art Prize.

“We have such a wide range of media to suit all tastes, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, installations, projections, site-specific art, performance art, interactive art and live art for this year’s festival. Plus we have a brilliant opportunity, and freedom, in a new location – an ordinary-looking house attached to St Michael in the City Church on Upper Pitt Street, which is to be one of our key visual arts venues.’

Threshold is all about challenging expectations, so this year, we are enjoying being able to turn this space into an interesting gallery in a setting that again is completely unexpected. We are also returning to an old favourite, Baltic Creative Shed, a dynamic room, which will be filled with wall-based art and site-specific work. And finally, we will have a projection and performance piece at District and further wall-based and site-specific installations at Hobo Kiosk.” – Jazamin Sinclair, Threshold Festival Visual Arts Co-Curator.
