The Living Marketplace – New Shop – Get Involved

from Beccy Williams….

The Art Organisation have acquired a retail space on Renshaw Street (opposite Rapid and two doors up from ‘69a’ and Grand Central).

We are setting up the shop as a home for The Living Market, evolving to become The Living Marketplace.

We are setting up a registered company to be run on Cooperative Principals and have been chosen as one of 6 start-up Social Enterprises to be given intensive support from The Eldonians in North Liverpool. Who are helping us obtain start-up funding to refurbish the shop and build individual display cabinets, Counter, Product Photography studio and e-commerce website.

Our aim is to develop a sustainable, democratic company that will be directed and run by it’s members and supported by volunteers. It is an opportunity for Artists, whether individuals or as groups to have support in developing sales and exposure for their work, on a self-directed basis. Our aim is to develop a space on a par with The Bluecoat Display Centre, but specifically representing work from Merseyside and the North West. Our plan is to open late September, to coincide with the Biennial, a great time to be seen by Arts and Culture Tourists visiting the city. The Living Marketplace will provide numerous opportunities, through exposure in the shop, through group marketing, sales on the website and at outside events under the banner of The Living Market.

We are looking for Artists, Makers and Collectives who would be interested in being members and are organising an open meeting for anyone who may be interested Wednesday June the 25th 2008 from 6.30 till eight.

We are also looking for people to get involved and volunteer their time, and will be organising another meeting the following Wednesday the 2nd of July 2008, again from 6.30 till 8.

Both meetings will take place at the shop site ( please be prepared, refurbishment work has not yet started!) 81 Renshaw Street, Liverpool L1.

Tea and biscuits will be abundant, Please feel free to bring your friends, and circulate this email to anyone you think may be interested.
