The Liverpool Dream

liverpool-dream.jpg

Walking along Mathew Street the other day we saw a small crowd of familiar faces outside Flanagan’s. By pure coincidence we were just in time for the opening ceremony of a sculptural work on the side of the pub which you can see in this picture above John Kelly, Peter Corbett and Lawrence Sidorczuk.

The work is called ‘The Liverpool Dream‘ and commemorates the 800th anniversary of Liverpool’s Charter and Carl G Jung’s dream of Liverpool.

There is a cosmic surreal image that looks forward to Liverpool’s future as well as its past, a poem ‘The Pool of Life’ by Peter Corbett and a bas-relief of the Liver Bird by Terry McGunigle on white marble. Also around the corner is a circular work by Lawrence Sidorczuk which is symbolic of the School of Language, Music, Dream and Pun that used to be there in the late 1970s.

All the work was given by the four artists at no charge and hopefully express the spirit of Liverpool and its character, creating an ongoing legacy.

Excellent stuff, do take a look next time you’re in the area. Only problem is Mathew street is running out of external wall space for all these sculptures and plaques.
