RESEARCH HONOUR
National Museums Liverpool
The Arts and Humanities Research Council has awarded the status of Independent Research Organisation (IRO) to National Museums Liverpool.
This means that National Museums Liverpool has been recognised as having research outputs equivalent to a university or higher education institution.
National Museums Liverpool – the only national museum group in England outside London – now ranks alongside such institutions as the British Library, British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum in terms of collections and scholarly research.
IRO status enables National Museums Liverpool to apply directly for research funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
Kay Carson, National Museums Liverpool’s head of research, says: “I am delighted that we have been acknowledged as a research organisation of the highest calibre.
“This is testament to the magnificent work undertaken by our curators, archivists, conservators and researchers throughout our venues.
“The award helps us to build on our already impressive research profile to enrich and enhance the knowledge of our collections for the enjoyment and education of all.”
