‘Pre-paid 2011’ Charity Postcard Exhibition and Auction
WEDNESDAY 7 December 2011, 17.30 (Auction starts 18.30)
(VIEWING: Wednesday 16 Nov 2011 17.30 – 19.30 at Hope Uni Cornerstone Gallery)
After the success of ‘Pre-paid 2009’, made possible by the generosity of all the artists and bidders who took part, the Cornerstone Gallery is again staging an exhibition and blind auction of small donated artworks on a postcard by the good, the great and the generous of this talented city and beyond.  The 2009 auction was a highly enjoyable affair raising over £2,000.  This year the proceeds will be donated to The Artists’ Benevolent Institution and Global Hope.
The contributors’ names, the artists and celebrities who contribute to Liverpool’s prestigious cultural life and continuing development, will be revealed on the preview night on Wednesday 16th November, 5.30 – 7.30pm. However, the names will not be matched to the individual postcards hence the ‘blind’ in ‘blind auction’ and the investigative challenge to all. The postcards will be exhibited until the auction on Wednesday 7th December.
The works will also be available to view at http://www.hope.ac.uk/cornerstone-gallery/postcards2011.html from 12pm on Thursday 17th November until 4pm on Wedenesday 7th December. Silent bids may be placed via e-mail up until 4pm on Wednesday 7th.
On Wednesday 7th December, the Gallery opens with refreshments at 5.30pm and a blind auction, hosted by Paul O’Keefe, starting at 6.30pm will provide the opportunity for all to bid for those works they are interested in. This will be a very exciting event, one not to be missed and a great opportunity to acquire a piece of work by a prominent artist or celebrity of our time.
About the Charities
The Artists’ General Benevolent Institution is one of the oldest charities in the UK helping artists since its foundation by J. M. W. Turner in 1814. It assists professional artists, sculptors, painters and designers, who, through accident, illness or old age, cannot work and earn. Widows and orphaned children of artists are also eligible.
Global Hope is Liverpool Hope University’s overseas education charity using University resources to support the educational development of communities overseas. In particular this means using the University’s expertise in learning and teaching, research and subject knowledge to work alongside partners in developing countries to appropriately meet their educational needs. This approach is grounded in the principle of reciprocity. A commitment to these relationships over the longer term has enabled genuine partnerships to develop. As a result, a deeper level of cross-cultural understanding now exists between Global Hope and its partners across 3 continents.
