People Power to Light Up Halloween Lantern Carnival

DSCFl0136The people of Liverpool are being invited to light up the night in Sefton Park in one of the year’s biggest art events.

The annual Halloween Lantern Carnival will once again unleash its special brand of revelry, fun, magic and mayhem on Friday November 1. Part of the spectacle will be a moving river of light formed by the local community as they proudly display their very own lanterns created in workshops across the city.

Alongside workshops with 12 established community groups, a further 10 open lantern making workshops will take place in various venues where local artists will work with participants to produce beautiful and personal works of art they are proud to show off to the thousands of people attending the Halloween event:

Previous workshops and lantern parades have proved exciting and inspirational for those taking part:

“Being part of the Halloween Lantern festival makes me proud to live in Liverpool and be part of its community”.

“Being part of the parade has been the thing I have felt most proud of in the past two years. It has made me feel really good about myself”.

Liverpool’s Lantern Company is now in its 10th year, and has earned an excellent reputation for creating stunning works of art that not only mesmerise onlookers, but are of outstanding artistic quality. Its work with the community and an artist-led ethos is at the heart of the company.

This year will see the company’s first commission abroad, when a team of artists will produce five brand-new puppets for the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, when a new night-time parade will be watched by up to 100,000 people. Over the coming months, the Lantern Company will also be producing major events in Liverpool and for Chester Zoo’s Christmas celebrations, as well as other events around the UK.
