Paul Curtis hopes his latest piece can encourage the next generation to go for the dreams.
Paul Curtis has created more than 200 public works of art since painting the much photographed “For All Liverpool’s Liver Birds” aka “The Wings”, on Jamaica Street. However, what many people don’t know is, a large selection of Paul’s work is in schools.
Paul has always believed that art is a great way of conveying messages, stating “I think at some point in childhood we all preferred looking at the pictures, rather than actually reading the book but if images spark an interest that usually encourages kids to want to know more”.
Paul’s next piece takes pride of place on the wall of St Mark’s primary in Halewood and features ex-pupil and world champion heptathlete, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Paralympics GB table tennis medallist, Jack Hunter-Spivey.
The mural entitled, “Achieve Your Potential”, was designed by Paul in response to a commission from British Gas, who’ve just announced a five year partnership with the British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association. Paul said of the artwork, “I hope it will remind future generations to work towards their dreams”.
Paul was at the unveiling of his artwork, as were the athletes Jack and Katarina, who took time out to chat to children and pose for photos. Katarina, otherwise known as KJT is a big fan of Paul’s work and said, “to return to my old school to help inspire the next generation is such an honour”.
Paul, who’s currently working on his first exhibition with curator Laura McCann said, “The fact that part of this project is also looking at how we can all try live in a more sustainable way, is also something close to my heart and want to focus on more”.
