A new photography group, Clickmoor, in North Liverpool is unveiling its first project to the public, opening on the 12th of December. Produced by Open Eye Gallery in tandem with My Clubmoor, the group have been exploring photography as a tool for reconnecting old memories and creating new stories in the local area. Now, they’re launching a free exhibition, called ‘EXPOSED’.
The collective comprises of photographer Emma Case & supporting artist Katherine Monaghan, working with a recently established photography group, Clickmoor. Each member of the group has developed their photographic ideas and approach to making, in an individual way that works for them.
Some of the group have used photography to start conversations around their own health and wellbeing. For others, it has been an opportunity to reconnect with their local area, and document what makes Clubmoor a distinct and positive community for them. Others have weaved in other existing interests including painting, creative writing and installation to explore how photography connects and responds to other practices.
Made possible through Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s Access and Participation Fund, Exposed is the first time the group will show their work to the public and is an opportunity for people to offer discussion and feedback on the work.
There are also longer-term ambitions to create a formal photography hub for My Clubmoor’s community centre, where the participants involved will create a more sustainable photography space for the community.
To ensure this is something that is made with and for people in North Liverpool, the collective invite anyone to come along to the launch event for a cup of tea, a biscuit and to discuss what this photography hub could be.
The exhibition marks the outcomes of the first six-month collaboration between the photographers and local community. This programme is part of the Young At Art initiative, a new socially engaged arts programme for over 60’s, with FACT and Museum of Liverpool. It enables people to connect through arts projects across the city. Young at Art works with over 60s from across the Liverpool City Region to create a new cultural network with an active sense of digital agency.
Exposed is a project produced by Open Eye Gallery, in partnership with My Clubmoor. The project is made possible through Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s Access and Participation Fund and the Baring Foundation. Open Eye Gallery is also supported by Arts Council England, Liverpool City Council and the Foyle Foundation.
