Lottery Awards Show Features 2 Liverpool Projects

LIVERPOOL PROJECTS GET SET FOR NATIONAL LOTTERY AWARDS SHOW
Liverpool Lottery-funded projects, Sefton Performing Arts and Creative Education Centre (SPACE) and the International Slavery Museum are getting ready to star on BBC1 television, in the live final of The National Lottery Awards 2009, on Saturday 5 September 2009. A short film about each of the projects will be broadcast before they find out whether they are a winner at this prestigious annual Awards event.

Four members of each project will be travelling to London to feature on the Saturday night show, The National Lottery: Big 7, which will be presented by Nick Knowles and Myleene Klass.  They will share the red carpet with a host of celebrity guests, including Strictly Come Dancing favourites, model and presenter Lisa Snowdon and broadcaster John Sergeant, actress Faye Ripley and diving sensation Tom Daley.  There will also be special live performances from The Noisettes and David Gray.

From the hundreds of Lottery-funded projects that entered, the two Liverpool-based projects are each one of just three finalists in their categories – SPACE hopes to be named Best Arts Project at the Awards ceremony, while the International Slavery Museum hopes to be Best Heritage Project.  The primetime show will be broadcast from 19.15 hours and should either of the Liverpool projects win their categories, they will walk away with a trophy and a £2000 cash prize to spend on their project.

Dr Richard Benjamin, Head of the International Slavery Museum, says: “We’re absolutely delighted to have reached the finals of The National Lottery Awards and I’d really like to thank everyone who has supported us so far by voting.”

Kerry O’Hara-Gardzielewska, Youth Arts Development Manager at SPACE, says: “We have benefited greatly from Lottery funding and the Awards are a fantastic way to celebrate all the hard work that goes into making our project a success.

“We can’t wait for the show, everyone’s so excited and if we win, it will be fantastic – the icing on the cake.”
