Liverpool’s First International Jazz Festival Hailed a Triumphant Success

The first Liverpool International Jazz Festival has been hailed a huge success by organisers, press and attendees. The festival, which ran from 28 February – 4 March, saw The Capstone Theatre transform into a Mecca for Jazz enthusiasts across the region as organisers brought together big names on the national and international jazz scene; with Roller Trio, Led Bib, Robert Mitchell, Kit Downes Quintet, Denys Baptiste’s Triumvirate and Courtney Pine to name a few highlights, for one huge weekend.

In the short time since its opening in 2010, The Capstone Theatre has established itself as one of the city’s leading venue for cutting edge jazz and world music.  This new festival delivered on its pledge to showcase original and innovative instrumental sounds from an array of high profile artists to satisfy the genre lovers and to introduce the fascinating world of jazz to a whole new generation of music fans.

The Capstone Theatre’s Neil Campbell said ”It was both a delight and a great honour for The Capstone Theatre to stage Liverpool’s first ever International Jazz Festival. Our main aim was to create an event that celebrated the immense talent of local jazz musicians and I was very pleased to see performances from fantastic local bands like The Weave and Blind Monk Trio being given similar levels of audience support as the internationally renowned artists.  The Festival mirrors the ethos of The Capstone’s artistic programme, which focuses on celebrating artistic creativity and innovation. It was therefore very encouraging to witness serious aficionados and curious musical adventurers, many new to jazz, revelling in the experience of top quality musicianship and often, along the way, having many of their musical preconceptions challenged by this exciting and far-ranging music. I’m now looking forward to the process of planning next year’s Festival, which I hope will build on the success of the first.”

With the success of Liverpool’s newest music event, the Liverpool International Jazz Festival is set to become an annual event at The Capstone Theatre.  More information can be found on www.thecapstonetheatre.com.
