There are just a few days left before Liverpool Discovers comes to a close after an amazing 12 weeks.
Extended from its original five week run to 12 due to popular demand, the event has been enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors to the city, while attracting media attention from all over the world including America, China, Australia and Canada.
Sally-Ann Wilkinson, Director of Wild in Art said: “Liverpool Discovers marked another ‘first’ for Liverpool as the first UK city to create a trail of artworks celebrating its extraordinary history. A big thank you to everyone involved in shaping this incredible event, not least the people of Liverpool for generating all of the stories that inspired our artists to create such unique works of art.”
It has also been announced that the 22 ‘Liverpool Greats’ portraits featured in the event will go on display for a further six weeks from Friday 6 May in the Metquarter.
The exhibition is an opportunity for people to enjoy a display of the artworks that were suspended above street level for the duration of the event, and to fully appreciate the level of skill and talent of the local artist who created them. The exhibition is being staged by Wild in Art in partnership with Culture Liverpool, City Central BID and Metquarter. Following the exhibition, the artworks will be sold with proceeds donated to Liverpool Unites towards their target of raising £500,000 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Director of Culture Liverpool, Claire McColgan, said: “Liverpool Discovers has been a resounding success and I’m delighted so many people have enjoyed the fascinating and unique installations, and hopefully learned something new about this wonderful city.
“It’s great to know that a worthy organisation such as Alder Hey Children’s Hospital will benefit from the project and I hope a huge amount of money is raised.”
The artworks at Metquarter will be available to view during normal shopping hours. Anyone wishing to see the art is advised to check Metquarter opening hours before travelling.(Artworks are displayed on the upper level)
