Liverpool Biennial 2018 Public Programme and Education plans announced
The public programme for Liverpool Biennial 2018 includes a series of talks, performances, film screenings, events and an education programme. The accompanying publication will present a range of different voices in response to the leading question of the Biennial, Beautiful world, where are you?
For Liverpool Biennial 2018, The Serving Library will present a series of free public talks hosted at Liverpool John Moores Unviersity’s Exhibition Research Lab. A wide-ranging list of participants including economists, sociologists, media theorists, architects and painters are invited to variously address or refract the question borrowed from Friedrich Schiller to title the Biennial: Beautiful world, where are you?. The speakers include Silke Otto-Knapp and Ei Arakawa, both artists in this year’s Biennial; Eyal Weizman, founder of the independent research agency Forensic Architecture; Candice Hopkins, a curator specialising in issues of indigeneity; Ryan Avent, Senior Editor at The Economist; linguist Jessica Coon; authors Meehan Crist and Angela Nagle; and media theorist Jussi Parikka.
The Liverpool Biennial 2018 film programme will feature a selection of Agnès Varda’s filmography, as well as films curated by Varda. The programme will be presented at FACT weekly throughout the Biennial and at BFI Southbank, London in June–July, as a partnership between FACT, Picturehouse and the BFI.
Education is at the heart of Liverpool Biennial’s work and is a key part of the 2018 programme. The Biennial is dedicated to the city and its people, working together with them to support and develop new ideas of social change and action through art. The education programme includes commissions, family workshops and long-term partnerships with Liverpool schools.
Artist Ryan Gander is working with Knotty Ash Primary School to produce a series of new works including a public artwork for the city. As part of this project, there will be a series of free learning resources related to subjects across the curriculum, teacher events, children’s summer school and school tours.
Liverpool Biennial will also host a Mediator-led public programme of events, designed and curated by the Mediation team over the course of the Biennial.
