MDI’s ANNUAL LEAP CONTEMPORARY DANCE FESTIVAL 1st-20th MARCH 2007
Leap is an annual dance festival unique to the region that brings the very best of contemporary regional, national and international dance to Liverpool.
Dance is truly showing its strength over the next two years in Liverpool, with Merseyside Dance Initiative (MDI) programming a wide and varied mixture of dance to enthral and entertain. Kick starting the 2007/2008 dance calendar will be LEAP 07, MDI’s annual contemporary dance festival held in various venues across the city.
MDI is proud to present LEAP 07, a dance festival (1st-20th March 2007) of eclectic, beautiful and inspiring dance brought to Liverpool. No other festival of this scale that brings international and national dance artists to Liverpool exists on Merseyside and it is a rare opportunity for dance veterans, advocates and curious audiences to see something that will stay with them forever.
LEAP 07 has something for everyone who wants to enjoy culture in the city.
The programme is indeed diverse including internationally renowned dance companies – Henri Oguike Dance Company and Russell Maliphant to the locally based companies Collision and Forecast with NW based artists featuring in New Moves and our community event Moving Stories, celebrating Liverpool’s heritage during its 800th Birthday.
For the person who wants something that challenges the definition of dance there are the humorous antics of Wendy Houstoun and Protein Dance, or even the fresh contemporary interpretations of African and Caribbean dance from Francis Angol and Serge-Aime Coulibaly or the fairytale, dreamscape-like performances of Maresa Van Stockert.
During the festival site-specific dance work will be performed at various locations throughout the city brought to you by MDI’s dance artists and the dance students of LIPA. Then, finally, to cool-down after all of the excitement of the festival, the post event showcase LEAP Extra will display works from the distinguished Canadian company Sylvain Emard Danse in April.
Celebrating its 15th year, LEAP 07 promises to be a vibrant, varied and exhilarating festival of dance. So don’t just sit there, enjoy dance!
