International Billboard Project in Liverpool and Manchester

What makes a good neighbour?

Liverpool Biennial in partnership with the 15th Istanbul Biennial brings an international billboard project to sites across Liverpool and Manchester. Realised in collaboration with cultural institutions from across the world, the project takes a good neighbour, the title of the upcoming 15th Istanbul Biennial curated by artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset, as its starting point. Dealing with multiple notions of home and neighbourhoods, the Istanbul Biennial will explore how living modes in our private spheres have changed throughout the past decades.

The International Billboard Project displays a carefully curated selection of photographs by Lukas Wassmann in collaboration with Rupert Smyth that capture unexpected encounters and ask questions about the concept of ‘good neighbour’. Other host cities throughout 2017 include Moscow, Sydney, Milan, Ljubljana, Belfast, Plovdiv, Chicago and Seoul, among others.

In Liverpool, the billboards can be found on Rice Lane and Edge Lane, and in Manchester on Whitworth Street West, a short walk away from Oxford Road Station.
