HIGH TIDE announces the launch of a new venue for eco-culture in the North West
Launch date: 20 January 2011
Liverpool-based non-profit arts organisation High Tide launches EDGEspace, a unique cultural venue promoting experimental Dialogues for Generating Eco-culture.
Located on Slater Street, in the Ropewalks district of Liverpool city centre, EDGEspace will be the hub of creative activity around ethical, environmental and ecological issues.
Across diverse platforms through artists’ commissions, workshops, debates and exhibitions, EDGEspace will open up cross-disciplinary engagement in environmentalism. Through these social encounters and cultural exchanges, High Tide aims to raise awareness and address the cultural and social challenges that climate change presents.
Encompassing a public space of over 900 sq ft. EDGEspace will play a key role in the High Tide Giving Back initiative; providing local creative groups with an accessible and affordable venue to hire for workshops, rehearsals, meetings etc. with the aim of supporting and promoting progression of a more sustainable creative community within the city.
For its inaugural opening in January 2011, High Tide announces two prestigious environmental photography exhibitions as part of its programme:
John Davies
Two Rivers
20 January – 16 February 2011
Internationally acclaimed photographer and artist John Davies shows his work from the River Mersey and the River Taff. This documentary landscape exhibition of large-scale photographs of river environments celebrates the launch of the EDGEspace.
The work features the River Mersey from where it forms beneath the M60 in Stockport following its course to Liverpool’s tidal estuary and The River Taff from its source in the Brecon Beacons to Cardiff Bay. Some images where made before the substantial changes that have taken place alongside these two iconic rivers. From Liverpool’s now disused airport and old docks in 1986, to Cardiff’s 1990’s naturally changing tidal ‘Tiger Bay’ now re-branded and re-formed as a permanent waterfront feature with the construction of the Cardiff Bay Barrage. This is the first time that the River Taff images have been exhibited in England.
