Heritage Open Days 2009 – Starts This Week

Heritage Open Days – Liverpool.

10 – 20 September 2009.
Lots to see and you need to book a place for most tours. The once-a-year opportunity to see the inside of many of Liverpool’s great old buildings. Including the 3 Graces, the Athenaeum, the Town Hall and even Bridewell Studios.

National Conservation Centre

Tour of the National Conservation Centre

World Museum
William Brown Street walk
12, 14 & 16 September 2009

A guided walk up William Brown Street looking at the materials in the buildings and monuments with our resident geologist – bring along a magnifying glass for a closer look.

Tour behind the scenes of World Museum

Tour the 1906 extension of World Museum designed by EW Mountford as a school for science and technology and art – includes a chance to see the impressive interior and a tour of the outside of the building.

The Oratory

Explore the former chapel of St James’ Cemetery which was built in 1827 to a design by celebrated architect John Foster. The Oratory is now in the care of National Museums Liverpool and houses a collection of 19th century sculpture and funeral monuments.
