Have Your Clothes Turned Into Art!

My clothes are already art of course, some are installations that have taken many years to perfect.

Donate a piece of your clothing to become part of an artwork to be exhibited at this year’s Liverpool Biennial festival!

Finnish artist Kaarina Kaikkonen is making an artwork for FACT’s Biennial exhibition which runs from 18 September – 28 November. As part of this exhibition she plans to create a huge sculpture made up of entirely of clothing donated from Merseyside residents. In particular we require light-weight tops, such as vests, t-shirts, blouses and shirts from men, women and children.

Each year Liverpool Biennial has a theme. This year’s is Touched. At FACT, the theme is translated into the idea of “a mother’s touch”. Kaarina’s sculpture will reflect on the maternal act of doing the laundry, which can be understood as a basic symbol of healing, care, and unconditional love.

If you can, please post a piece of clothing (just something you might send to a charity shop anyway) before 07 September. Alternatively you can bring your items in to the FACT building (88 Wood Street, Liverpool, L1 4DQ) and leave them at our Information Desk in the foyer. Please label the clothing with your name, postcode and supply an email address so we can keep you updated and send a formal invitation to the exhibition.

Unfortunately we cannot refund costs of postage or return clothing. We hope you understand. However, we will be listing the names of all those who kindly donated next to the artwork which will be on display throughout the 10 weeks of the exhibition. All items will be donated to Oxfam following the show.

If you need more information, don’t hesitate to get back to us and ask – you can reach Ellie Overs at ellie.overs@fact.co.uk or 0151 707 4410.
