Good to see our Arts Centres pledging to train their workers.

FACT MAKES THE SKILLS PLEDGE
The UK’s leading digital arts centre is making a new investment in training.

FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology), which is based in Liverpool, has made the Learning and Skills Council’s (LSC) Skills Pledge, a public commitment to the training and up-skilling of its workforce. In doing so, it is tapping into LSC funding to help support its training programmes.

The organisation employs a large number of students from Liverpool’s universities within its front of house and customer service teams and hopes this investment in training will also attract non-student applicants for prospective jobs.

Tracey Fairclough, Human Resources Manager at FACT, said: “FACT is dedicated to nurturing skills and talent, so I’m only too happy to be associated with the Skills Pledge initiative.”
“The training and continuous improvement of our workforce is vital to FACT as it adds to the team’s overall job satisfaction and career development, which will in turn enhance the experiences of the customers who visit FACT.”

CONTEMPORARY URBAN CENTRE’S PLEDGE TO TRAIN

The Contemporary Urban Centre, Liverpool’s largest arts, cultural and social enterprise hub, has today pledged its commitment to the training and up-skilling of its workforce.

The centre has made the Learning and Skills Council’s (LSC) Skills Pledge, a public declaration which ensures all members of staff receive training and skill development, with funding support provided by the LSC. The Skills Pledge ensures all staff are trained to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.

An objective of the Contemporary Urban Centre is to provide marginalised communities and individuals with a solid employment infrastructure, creating jobs within its conference and events facilities, cafes, restaurants and front of house.

Dino Moutsopoulos, Director of Operations at the Contemporary Urban Centre said: “We’re dedicated to giving marginalised individuals the very best in employment opportunities. Making the Skills Pledge tells our staff, customers and suppliers that we will be providing our team with training that will benefit them for years to come.”

The Contemporary Urban Centre has recently undergone a £17m makeover, completely refurbishing the 170,000 square foot Grade II listed warehouse.

Helen France, LSC Director of Area for Greater Merseyside, said: “The LSC aims to provide employees with skills that they can carry with them for the rest of their working lives. I’m delighted that the Contemporary Urban Centre has chosen to demonstrate its commitment to its staff by making the Skills Pledge and I would encourage other organisations to do the same.”
