The switch-on of Liverpool’s Christmas lights is set to be a musical extravaganza.

Spectators can witness an ITV/BBC showdown as three potential chart-topping Christmas acts go head-to-head on St George’s Hall plateau.

Liverpool’s X-Factor stars Eton Road and Raymond Quinn and Ricky Tomlinson, as Jim Royle, are headlining the spectacular music and light show, which starts at 5pm.

First up is Raymond with his version of ‘Ain’t That A Kick In The Head’ by Dean Martin. Eton Road immediately follow with the Abba song ‘Does Your Mother Know?’, with Jim Royle’s new single ‘Christmas My A*se’ ending a 20-minute blitz of possible Christmas No1 acts.

As the area around St George’s Hall and Lime Street comes alive with lights, the event will also feature trapeze artists, Christmas classics from Notre Dame Gospel Choir while TV’s ‘Just the Two of Us’ star and 08 Ambassador Mark Moraghan will duet with Neville Skelly.

The evening which celebrates 2006 Liverpool Performs, the fourth-themed year in the run-up to 2008, climaxes with a fireworks display off Wellington Column.
