Capstone Theatre reveals its Ambitious Spring Programme

The Vagina Monologues, The Heart of Everton’s Badge and Ground-breaking Audio-Visual Performances

Audiences of The Capstone Theatre are in for a real treat this spring with the finest in live music, dance and theatre as well as the highly anticipated return of the Liverpool International Jazz Festival.

As Liverpool’s leading International Arts Venue for world and avant-garde music, we begin on Friday 24 January with Delicatessen: A Selection of Early English Songs. Join us for an intimate evening of English Restoration and Baroque songs performed by celebrated soprano soloist Kate Semmens and the acclaimed harpsichordist Steven Devine. There’s more historic music on Friday 7 February with a visit from The Harmonious Society of Tickle-Fiddle Gentlemen; who take their name from one of London’s first ensembles to regularly perform concerts in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

Throughout this season, The Capstone will host a number of unique events which blend music with visual and artistic performances in new and exciting ways. The first of these on Thursday 6 February will see internationally acclaimed percussionist Joby Burgess in collaboration with sound designer Matthew Fairclough and visual artist Kathy Hinde to bring Powerplant to our stage. Also on Friday 21 February we host Guitars and Other Machines, with delays and loop machines, alongside projected visuals building intricate layered compositions for both classical and electronic guitars.

The third of these unique performances takes place on Friday 28 March with Shatner’s Bassoon which draws on influences from a wide range of musical styles and real time modular scenography to explore the interaction between 3D projection mapping and improvisation.

After much anticipation, Thursday 27th February – Sunday 2nd March marks the return of the Liverpool International Jazz Festival. Some of the biggest names will perform, including celebrated British pianist Jason Rebello, Anglo-American ‘supergroup’, The Impossible Gentleman as well as hotly tipped local and regional artists.
