Brendan Lyons Exhibits at CUBE Manchester

Liverpool artist Brendan Lyons is currently in the CUBE Open 09 in Manchester.

Objects that may appear to be polythene sheeting, builder’s safety netting, hazard tape, cardboard and other urban detritus, are in fact made of unsupported artists’ paint alone – and installed together on and in buildings, combine to produce completed paintings.

Brendan Lyons has been selected to exhibit at the third annual CUBE Open 2009, and was also awarded a ‘runner-up’ prize by the selectors. He is exhibiting two site-specific installations at the Centre for the Urban and Built Enviroment in Manchester, England.

“Moni – K” creates a frame of paint which surrounds the viewer as they pass through the plane of the painting. The safety netting (and the silver tape that appears to support it) the hazard tape on the girder, and the black tape and cardboard on the floor, all consist of unsupported paint alone.

CUBE is one of Europe’s most exiciting art, architecture and design centres, dedicated to the ideas and issues that lie behind the buildings, spaces and cultural networks that make up the built enviroment.
