Through a series of screenings, live performance and discussion, Analogue is a two day event that illuminates the little-known early histories of artists’ video. Linking the work of artists in the UK, Canada and Poland, the programme aims to broaden an understanding of how a versatile and politically charged medium made the transition from marginal to mainstream contemporary practice.

Five one-hour programmes featuring pioneering video work by UK, Canadian and Polish artists such as David Critchley, Mona Hatoum and Cerith Wynn-Evans will be screened in The Box over two days.

A panel discussion on Friday 02 March, with Canadian curator Peggy Gale, UK artist and curators Catherine Elwes, and Chris Meigh-Andrews and Polish curator Lukasz Ronduda(tbc), will discuss the different social, economic and political contexts that helped shape the development of video art the UK, Canada and Poland.

Following the panel discussion, there will be a live video performance by artist Kevin Atherton In Two Minds, in which Atherton attempts a mediated conversation with a younger version of himself, made possible through video technology.
