Liverpool’s City Halls opened Stable Gallery, a new arts and exhibition space housed within the iconic St George’s Hall, last week. This exciting addition to Liverpool’s cultural landscape opened its doors on Thursday, 17th April 2025, with the launch of its inaugural exhibition: “Liverpool’s Crowning Culture”.
Set against the backdrop of one of Liverpool’s most historic buildings, The Stable Gallery aims to provide a vital platform for local artists from across the Liverpool City Region to showcase their work in a space that celebrates creativity, community, and heritage.
The opening exhibition, Liverpool’s Crowning Culture, is a powerful tribute to the strength, creativity, and rich history of Black culture in Liverpool. Featuring captivating displays of Afro hair artistry, vibrant African costumes, and styling workshops, the exhibition offers an immersive exploration of identity, heritage, and activism.
“This exhibition invites reflection on the significance of Afro hair as a symbol of cultural pride and resilience,” said a spokesperson for City Halls. “By weaving together personal stories and artistic expressions, the exhibition shines a light on Black identity, its evolution, and the power of art to challenge historical narratives and shape a more inclusive future.”
