CAMPGROUND An exhibition by Garth Gratrix
Open – 27th May – 27th June 2017 | Opening event – Saturday 27th May 2017, 1-5pm
Garth Gratrix works with raw materials and household colour palettes; with a particular interest in queering the everyday. His work plays with found language (such as colour swatch specifications) and relationships within the arrangement and placement of things. Currently, Gratrix takes his made or simply positioned objects with a particular measurement of nine inches between each object as a means to set a future process for installation as well as a reference to idealism when considering male anatomy and expectations. How does size become a spatial arrangement rather that an expectation of performance? The process of installing and formally measuring objects in relation to one another gives birth to installations that evolve and respond to space – like the first date between something and nothing.
Gratrix is founding director of Abingdon Studios and In Collaboration With… a new platform for experimentation and contemporary showcase in Blackpool in partnership with East Street Arts, Leeds.
