Retro-Electro Beat Making Workshop
For ages 16 – 25
Are you interested in electronic music?
Do you like to learn how things work?
Are you curious about performance art and/or sound art?
Have you ever wondered what electronic dance music sounded like when your grandparents were up all night partying?
Please meet the Side Man 5000 – the world’s oldest drum machine. This is a very rare (and very heavy) electronic instrument from 1959 that generates rhythms and beats that all the DJs want to sample.
During this workshop, participants will learn how to operate and perform with the Side Man 5000. We will also create our own sample banks and build acoustic pickups to tap into the secret sounds that the machine makes.
This is a very unique experience that will also be part of the Human Futures exhibition at FACT in November 2015. We need to recruit Side Man 5000 operators for the performances on opening night.
This is an open and adventurous workshop presented by Darsha Hewitt. No previous experience is required.
Places Limited – Booking required via FACT website
