The Transcend 175 project offers members of the public the opportunity to express support for and solidarity with the transgender community during a period when that community is being subjected to abuse and misdirected accusations in the media and in some sections of society. “Transcend 175” will offer a choice of free postcards, themed for Trans Support, which can be inscribed supportively. The cards are paired and one can be given or sent to a trans recipient whilst the other will be used for a public display at the end of the Festival and beyond. Venues which agree to host the project will simply be supplied with a display box containing the cards which also carries details about how to make use of the cards and what the project’s aims are.It would be hoped that each venue will draw attention to the display, by placing it accessibly within their public areas. Project artists will regularly attend to maintain the supply of cards and collect completed cards. The display will be in place for the duration of November, and collected at the end.
This project is being trialled on Merseyside at four venues. Waterstones Bookshop in Liverpool One, FACT and The Bookstop in St Helens have agreed to take part. Each venue will be invited at the conclusion of the project to display the completed cards for a period with messages in a special two-sided container.
