ECHO is an exhibition seeking to raise ecological awareness around the eventual absence of what we are losing. The first solo exhibition in 10 years for environmental artist Julie Dodd, ECHO draws attention to climate change and the biodiversity disappearing around us, leaving only a trace, a fading resonance; and seeks to understand the effects of human activity on the planet whilst looking to the future to make a positive difference.
Julie is an environmental artist mainly working with recycled materials and paper, constructing sculptural pieces. Books feature heavily in her work, often recycling other discarded materials to form artworks and constructions; bringing new life and meaning to them
“My artwork is based on repetition and is inspired by patterns and shapes found in nature. I focus most of my attention on environmental issues using my art practice as a platform to reflect my concerns of our consumption and environmental responsibility, often working with discarded materials to produce a response.”
To complement the exhibition there will be a series of environmentally themed creative workshops led by Julie. Contact galleries@knowsley.gov.uk for further information.
