People of the Priory
Exhibition runs Saturday 27 February – Saturday 16 April 2016
Norton Priory opens a brand new museum in summer 2016, creating a world class visitor attraction for Runcorn.
As the new displays near completion we look back at the people of the local area who have shaped the site over the past 900 years, from servants and canons, to knights and ladies.
Through the centuries, a medieval monastery, Tudor country house and Georgian mansion all stood on the site, with their influence stretching across the Halton area. Tales of these historical characters will mingle with 20th century memories of local people playing in the overgrown estate or helping in the dig of the 1970s and 80s which made the site Europe’s most excavated monastery. Portraits, artefacts and film will reveal the human stories of this unique heritage site.
Special event:
On Saturday 26 March 2106 you can explore a popup museum featuring original artefacts to handle, mystery objects to puzzle over, mosaic tile laying and dressing up in the gallery space.
Led by Norton Priory Museum Staff – free event 10am – 4pm. Suitable for children and families.
