In this 10 week course course you will learn the essential techniques used to create beautiful portrait compositions in oil paint.

Programme
Starting from the basics, your tutor will provide exercises and tuition to help you improve your painting and portraiture skills or help you get to grips with the basics in this area. This course is suitable for beginners, or for more experienced artists looking to polish up their skills.
The course will cover topics such as:
- Grisaille greyscale painting
- Understanding light and shade
- Working with the Zorn palette
- Using a full colour palette
- Structure and anatomy
Tutor: Kathy Dereli
Kathy is trained in traditional techniques in drawing and sculpture which she uses to create well-crafted artworks with a modern sensibility. She has lead classes and demonstrations in both disciplines for several years.

Materials
The essential materials to bring include:
pencils and paper for exercises
oil paint paper or canvas, palette, brushes, paints, cleaning rags or kitchen tissue, odourless mineral spirit or turps
(suggested range in order of importance: titanium white, ivory black, cadmium red light or vermillion hue, yellow ochre, burnt umber, ultramarine, alizarin crimson, cerulean, cadmium yellow or lemon yellow)

Cancellations / Refunds
Once you have made your course booking you are committed to it. This is because our courses have very small student numbers, and often sell-out and are unavailable to others. Therefore any cancellations may result in a place not being filled, or a course not being able to run.
Cancellations are permitted up to 30 days before the start of a course, and a full refund will be issued. Refunds will not be made for cancellations less than 30 days before the start of a course. If you are unable to attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments you do not have the right to a refund.
If you wish to cancel your place on a course that has not yet started and you have a friend or colleague who can take your place we can accommodate this substitution.
