Saturday Meet the Maker Events
Join the Bluecoat Display Centre every other Saturday for informal conversations and demonstrations by local makers. These events are FREE. Booking is not required, just pop into the gallery to gain a valuable insight into the work of these talented makers.
On Saturday 24 August 2024 Bluecoat Display Centre will be joined by Nawal Gebreel, who will be demonstrating different ways to wear her opulently pleated scarves and accessories, as well as her techniques for freehand ink landscape paintings.
Nawal’s work is heavily influenced by tactile textures, the rhythms of nature, Japanese paper-folding and shibori techniques. Her scarves and accessories feature sumptuous origami shapes, sultry swirls, metamorphosed silks and of course the label’s signature – of perfect pleats in abundance. The styles range from day to evening – simple to the more avant-garde.
Nawal is an experienced teacher and demonstrator, and runs regular classes in watercolours, mixed media art, textiles, machine embroidery, for all abilities and experience.
