Pottery tutor and Technician needed in Manchester at Seven Limes Pottery.
Running for over 26 years, Seven Limes pottery is Manchester’s first community pottery studio open to the general public. We deliver training in traditional pottery making skills. This is a brilliant opportunity for a budding pottery tutor who will be trained to teach in a thriving pottery studio. We’re looking for someone who will commit to our student’s development in learning for both casual and serious learners; who can contribute to the overall success of the studio as a business; and someone who is able to encourage a supportive and positive working environment. The individual must be proactive, reliable, responsible, amicable, enthusiastic, helpful with tasks around the studio, and willing to adapt their teaching to Seven Limes Pottery’s teaching style. The position comes along with technician responsibilities.
Part-time: 1-3 weekday evenings, 2-4 weekend days per month plus casual work to be discussed at interview. Trainee period 2.5 years.
You will be teaching wheel throwing, as well as other methods and need to have a good skill level to apply, this position will not be training you to wheel throw.
Essential attributes:
– Excellent wheel throwing skills (to be demonstrated at interview)
– Strong interpersonal skills with groups and individuals.
– Legal right to work in the UK.
Teaching Duties
– Assisting in teaching/teaching evening and/or daytime taster classes and courses as well as weekend workshops plus associated studio management.
– Ensuring equipment and materials are ready for each class.
– Ensuring the workshop remains clean, tidy, safe and organised after all sessions.
– Lesson planning, evaluating courses, and developing and implementing improvements to them with the director.
– Technician duties: Monitoring, rotating, glazing and organising pots, collections, cleaning the studio, emptying clay traps, recycling clay, making glazes, loading/unloading kilns and all other aspects of studio maintenance.
-There may be administrative duties involved with the running of the studio also.
