Uncanny Desires is the next edition of Fringe Flicks, an artist-led short film night curated by People Versus TV (PVTV) and based in Liverpool.

Hosted at DoES Liverpool, Fringe Flicks brings together experimental, surreal, and unconventional short films from the UK and around the world, shown in an informal, community-focused setting. Uncanny Desires explores themes of intimacy, obsession, bodily experience, and emotional disruption through dark humour, gothic imagery, and offbeat narrative forms.

The programme is headlined by The Girl with the Haunted Vagina (2023), directed by Samantha O’Rourke and written by Rachel Tookey, a bold Welsh short that tackles shame, desire, and bodily autonomy with confidence and discomfort in equal measure.

Alongside this, the screening features international and UK short films alongside Liverpool-made work, including Equinox Moon Cup, directed by Rachel Wilton with spoken word by Hayley Gordon (Twisted Tales). The handmade collage film combines poetry, ritual, politics, and mythic imagery to explore bodily cycles and power.

The night also includes a preview of Dogshit, a new Liverpool-made short developed through PVTV’s Creative Meet-Ups. The film follows a man in search of his lost edge, led by a promise of sunshine and happiness into an unexpectedly unsettling act of self-discovery.

Fringe Flicks operates on a Pay What You Can basis and offers a welcoming space for curious audiences to experience challenging moving image work together, outside traditional cinema or gallery contexts.
