National Museums Liverpool has posted its first-ever web catalogue on the Walker Art Gallery site.

It presents full catalogue entries, annotated and illustrated, about all the foreign paintings, drawings and sculptures acquired by the gallery between 1984 and 2004 that have not been previously published in other forms.

The rest of the Walker fine art department’s holdings of foreign art had previously been published in printed catalogues.

Many individuals and organisations have contributed to the acquisition of the foreign works in the on-line catalogue by bequests, gifts, grants or cash donations.

Xanthe Brooke, the Walker’s curator of continental European art, says: “We would like to thank everyone who has helped us acquire these works.

“Our special gratitude goes to the Art Fund and the National Heritage Memorial Fund who, between them, have helped fund the acquisition of around half the 17 catalogued works.
