Independents Biennial 2018: Writer-in-Residence

Art in Liverpool are offering up to 8 writers from the Liverpool City Region the position of Writer-in-Residence during this year’s Independents Biennial.

Through either critical or creative writing, we’re seeking dynamic, conscientious writers who will respond to and document this year’s festival. There will be regular opportunities for you to work together in festival project spaces, either as writers, artists or producers. As part of the festivals lasting legacy, writers will create and produce a publication which will be shared publically. As a result of this, all writers will gain a professional writing credit.

In addition, Art in Liverpool are offering writers a quiet, city centre based workspace where they might also like to host meetings and related events with artists and industry professionals.

This opportunity is suitable for writers working in any medium who have a passion for visual arts and who are seeking the next steps to develop their professional career as a writer. Applicants must be aged 18+ and demonstrate some experience of writing (may be voluntary, in an education context or professionally).

To apply, we ask that you complete a short application form telling us about your experience to date, any relevant skills you hold and why this opportunity would be useful for your development as a writer.  We’d also like to read a sample of your writing, of no more than 5 pages. Please send an electronic extract of your work to Hayley at:

To apply, please complete the short online application form here:

Deadline: Friday 22nd June 2018

Applicants will be shortlisted, then invited for an informal interview during the week commencing 2nd July 2018.
