World of Glass – Births, Deaths & Marriages

Bdm2Births, Deaths and Marriages, 13 November 2010 – 9 January 2011.
Births, Deaths & Marriages are often the only time families get together with their relatives. And these major life events are the theme of a new free exhibition at The World of Glass. The exhibition offers local people a fascinating trip down memory lane with highlights including a striking 1950s wedding dress and a bride and bridesmaid outfit from the 1980s.

It also takes a wide-ranging look at birth and death down the ages from ancient Egyptian masks and mummy wrappings to a complete child’s nursery from the 1930s.

“We wanted to showcase objects from the happiest days of our lives to the saddest,” says Hannah Longworth of The World of Glass.

“This is an opportunity to see many  rare items from the St.Helens Council Collection ranging from wedding dresses and christening gowns to mourning dresses and jewellery.”

To coincide with the opening of the exhibition, The World of Glass is staging a Wedding Fair on Sunday Sunday Nov 14 which also offers free admission.

“The exhibition makes a great extra attraction for Wedding Fair visitors and is a chance to display some of the treasures from our collections to people who might not normally come into the museum,” adds Hannah.
Births Deaths And Marriages will run at The World of Glass from November 13 to January 9.
